Nine Swimmers Have a Shot at The Dream |
|
Tuesday, 17 June 2008 |
Beginning Sunday, June 29, nine NCAC swimmers will take their shot at achieving the dream of so many young swimmers around the country -- making the U.S. Olympic Team. The Olympic Trials will take place at the Qwest Center in Omaha, Nebraska June 29-July 6 and over 1,200 athletes will all be there trying to accomplish the same thing. Fewer than one half of 1% of all the swimmers in the U.S. make it to the Trials, which they do by making some fast qualifying times. From the Trials, the top two women and the top two men in each individual event will make the team, as well as the top 6 in the 100 free and the 200 free. Our nine swimmers representing NCAC all have a shot at that dream. They are:
Chip Peterson (200 free, 400 free, 1500 free, 400 IM), Whitney Sprague (400 free, 800 free), Carly Smith (100 Back), Megan Steeves (100 Back), Kelsey Morrissy (50 free, 100 free), Eliza Butts (100 free), Hank Browning (200, 400 free), Jeff James (100 back, 200 back, 200 IM), and Vinny Pryor (200 breast).
In addition, many other swimmers with NCAC ties will also be competing. NCAC alum Timothy Liebhold (Class of 2002, U of Wisconsin Class of 2006) will be vying for a spot in the 200 free. Current UNC swimmers Tyler Harris, Rebecca Kane, Tommy Wyher, Alison Clemens, Andy Brake, Joe Kinderwater, Katura Harvey, Ashley Howard, and former UNC swimmers Zach Swartz and Keith Laabs also have a lane and an opportunity
